Drexel family collection, 1826-1831, 1864, 1884-1991.

The collection contains items related to the Drexel family found in the Drexel University Archives in 2005. The majority of the collection contains newspaper clippings and scrapbooks related to the Drexel family in the twentieth century, but the collection also includes genealogical charts, legal and financial documents, and photographs. Items dating from the nineteenth century include Francis Martin Drexel's diary, memorial books, and a small collection of letters.

The Drexel family came to prominence in Philadelphia when the Austrian immigrant Francis Martin Drexel left his career as an artist/painter and opened a currency brokerage house. In 1837, Francis's son, Anthony J., took over the thriving business from his father and built a large fortune as a banker and Wall Street broker. In 1891, A.J.
